Starting Out

Welcome to the first blog post from Bridging The Gap, a new charitable non-governmental organisation (NGO) created by some like-minded individuals to help small to medium sized organisations registered in Romania to fulfil their needs.

Sounds simple, right?

Well the idea was at first. Here's the simple version - three Brits who were living / had lived in Chisinau, Moldova were coming to the end of their time in that forgotten gem and wanted to help charities in Romania, a country where they had all lived before at certain times of their lives.

Through work and volunteering, Romania was dear to these three and they wanted to help using the best thing that they had - resources, skills and contacts. Since 1989, hundreds of foreign aid charities and agencies have entered Romania and as the situation in the country has gotten better, these charities have left as they are no longer needed. In fact, only around 10% of these charities who entered remain in 2014.

However, many organisations are still being created today and the majority of them have the same goal - to have an impact on society by making a change. However the NGO 'market' in Romania is getting over-crowded by the day and many of the smaller charities are left out in the cold as they are less experienced in this sector and are less skilled in such fields as fundraising, strategic planning, making contacts and most importantly, achieving their goals. These organisations have needs and a lot of them do not have the experience or time to have these needs met.

Bridging The Gap has been created to bring these NGO's together with potential supporters, particularly those in the business community.

Our vision is to create a Romania where the needs of all charitable organisations making a positive impact on society are met by the community around them.

Our website will go live soon but in the meantime you can follow our work on our Facebook page which you can access here
